In a unique partnership with the New Brunswick Board of Education and the New Jersey School Development Authority, Devco presented the city high school as one of only six Development Projects in the state determined to shift development risks away from the Board of Education. Of paramount importance to this partnership was not only to introduce a state-of-the-art educational facility for New Brunswick students, but also to coordinate development with community design features, neighborhood revitalization efforts and cost control delivery methods.
Through structured small learning communities, general instructional areas are designed to maximize flexibility; classrooms can either be used as stand-alone instructional rooms or can be combined for larger ground instruction and special projects. Further, the architectural design of the facility allows for educational programs including performing arts, culinary arts, and media studies.
