In October 2021, ground was broken on the most far-reaching and impactful investment in innovation, translational research and medical education in New Jersey history. The project includes three important components: the New Jersey Innovation & Technology HUB, a Translational Research Facility for Rutgers University, the Rutgers Medical School.
The New Jersey Innovation and Technology HUB is organized into two major components: the Innovation Center and the CORE Partner space. The Innovation Center will provide modern workspace designed to foster collaboration among researchers, entrepreneurs, start-up companies and others. The CORE Partner area will provide the project’s Partners—including Rutgers University, RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, NJEDA, and Middlesex County together with the facility’s initial tenants including Princeton University and Choose NJ – with collaborative office and workspace near the Innovation Center to encourage direct connections with innovators and entrepreneurs in real time.
The second component of this phase of development will include a Translational Research Facility for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. The new RBHS research facility will be built atop of The Innovation Hub space. Components of the Translational research space will include wet lab space for 60 principal investigators and their research and support teams, dry lab space for 20 principal investigators and their research and support teams and associated research and support space.
The third component of this initial phase is the development of a new Medical School building for the Rutgers Medical School. The new academic building will allow for the relocation of Rutgers’ medical school to a new downtown location, in proximity to both the university and hospital campuses.
